This "rule" is especially relevant this week. If you live in WI or watch our politics you may be aware of a judicial election that could impact Governor Walker's ability to implement his changes in how WI does business. The election appears now to have clearly gone to the incumbent Justice Prosser. However, I expect a recount and lots more noise before this is over. If the union supported candidate does not win, then the left will clearly see fraud.

The upcoming judicial election in Wisconsin will have a huge impact on whether Governor Walker is able to go ahead with our budget agenda. This seat will make the difference in the state supreme court between budget legislation going through or being blocked by a liberal court. Keep things in perspective

100 years ago 146 people died in a tragic fire in the Triangle Shirtwaist factory fire in New York City. Working conditions were deplorable including doors bolted shut.

It is unbelievable to see writers try to make comparisons between the labor conditions in the early 1900s and recent events related to public employee unions. One of many articles I read today states "When word got out that Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker had ordered the windows of the state Capitol building bolted shut during the protests against his attacks on public employees, it was a chilling reminder of how employers of the Triangle Shirtwaist Company had locked their factory doors, preventing the young, mostly immigrant women from escaping the deadly fire that killed 146".  In another article, Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer states that "Walker and others "want to drag our nation back to 1911."

These comparisons sicken me. The protesters at the capitol could walk right out the front door. Shut windows in no way put them into the danger seen in New York in 1911. There is no doubt that reforms were needed at that time.

Today reforms are needed in our government budgets. There is a vast difference between addressing out of control budgets including looking at the wages and pensions of workers and having people work in life threatening conditions. The comparisons made between recent events in Wisconsin and horrors of the past are ridiculous and in no way honor those that lost their lives.

Coal powered cars

"So instead of subsidizing yesterday's energy, let's invest in tomorrow's." Actually instead of investing in the energy of tomorrow, we are just choosing a different one to subsidize. When a "new" energy source is viable it won't need to be propped up by the president. The coal power needed for most electricity isn't more efficient than gasoline and doesn't move us away from a reliance on fossil fuels.

Of course cars will look different down the road but that should occur because the technology has evolved not because we proclaim that it should be that way.

Ignoring oil does not make it go away it just makes us less prepared for the future. Oil is still the most viable option for our energy needs. That will most likely change at some point but it should happen naturally. Let's invest in today's energy. The hatred for oil helps no one.

Kinder, more gentle politics?

I live in Wisconsin so it is not too difficult to select a topic for my initial posting. One of the most frustrating things for me as a conservative is to hear about how the right is supposedly so hateful and mean-spirited. What I see when I interact with conservatives is so different from the stereotypes perpetuated by the left and media in general. I won't deny that hateful things have been said by both the left and the right at times. However, I have not found that to be the norm among conservatives. The union and tea party protests in Madison often demonstrated a stark contrast between hate and civility.
